What is “hard money” and “soft money”?
in accordance to gov and politics
Not sure the concept still applies since the most recent changes in campaign finance laws.
Under the previous version, “hard” money could be used for any purpose by a political party. However, there were limits on how much a person or entity could donate in hard money.
“Soft” money could only be used for limited purposes (e.g. “educational” ads, party building activities, get out the vote effort) and could not be directly used to support a candidate. On the other hand, there were no limits on how much soft money could be donated.
